A beautifully colored, 18th century map of the bay and the city of Macao, at that time a Portuguese colony. The map shows many details, like the wall that divides the Portuguese and Chinese and the houses for the Chinese people that worked in the city.

This version is from the more rare exclusive international edition of ´Histoire Generale des Voyages´ published by De Hondt in The Hague (Netherlands) in 1749. With titles in Dutch and French.

Jacques Nicolas Bellin was the most important French hydrographer of the 18th century. He published his beautiful maps in several important works like the Sea-atlas 'Hydrographique Français' (1756-65) and the atlas to accompany Prévost d' Exile's ' Histoire. des Voyages', (1738-75).

Good condition. Agebrowned, mainly in the outer right and bottom margins. Beautiful lively colors. Wide margins. Paper with clear watermark. Never folded. Text in French and Dutch (more rare). Other side of the paper is blank.
