Item number: 24 38 AJ

Very large antique 17th century copper engraving with a panoramic view of the city of Aleppo in Syria. The image is one of the largest of the former capital of Syria, showing the full extent of the city; the view is taken from the high ground looking down on the city. In the foreground a caravan arrives at the end of the Silk road.

The engraving was made by C. de Bruyn for his book ´Reizen van Cornelis de Bruyn door de vermaardste deelen van Klein Asia…´, 1698, Delft (Netherlands).

In this book he describes in great detail a voyage of several years through the Ottoman Empire, mainly through modern day Turkey, Egypt, Cyprus, Israel and Lebanon.

Very good condition for the age. Thick paper with clear print and ample margins. Repaired tear in the right bottom corner with minimal impact on the image, some minor repairs in the margins. Otherwise excellent.
